Mike
Smith Memorial Trophy
This trophy is for the pilot having
the longest flight (Hang or Para) from a Northumbrian
site.
Mike Smith was a club member who was
killed in a car crash on his way to the Scottish open
Hang Gliding competition in Glenshee. His family sold
his equipment and purchased the trophy for the club
to keep Mikes memory alive.

The annual hang gliding contest.
This much contested trophy has been on the go since
1981 and now carries a fair bit of history including
a long list of pilots from years gone by.
Phil
Trotter Trophy
This trophy is for hang glider
XC flights going to the pilot with the best total for
the year.
Phil Trotter was a very keen hang
glider pilot and his accident on Shilmoor Cairn in the
Cheviots left the club in shock. Phil forgot to clip
into his glider before take off. Kevin Polley one of
our club members made this much fought over trophy on
behalf of Phils family and club members. Again
the trophy helps to keep Phils memory and enthusiasm
alive in the club.
The
Graeme Thirlwell Trophy
This is a new trophy for the
most improved pilot over the year. Graeme was a club
member who had an accident while on holiday flying in
the Alps. Again this trophy is help keep Graemes
memory alive.
