Karting

Post by AlastairW »

I mentioned this at last nights meeting, and there seemed to be a good deal of interest.......

We have of course had two indoor karting events before, but lets face it, there is very little opportunity for overtaking on the indoor track, and rather than an endurance race it would be good to have one to one racing......

So what is proposed is a night out at Warden law:

http://www.kartingnortheast.com/karting_02.htm

It is a proper outdoor track, 1200m long, and the karts are proper racing karts, acheiving speeds on the straights of nearly 60mph

So what I was proposing was having a race there on either Tuesday 18th November, Wednesday 19th, or Thursday 20th, starting at 7:30pm.

It will last about an hour and a half, with 45 minutes driving.... 15 minutes practise then a 30 minute race. That is more than enough!!

Please let me know if you are interested, and which date is best....

Cost will be about £30 per person, provided we get enough....

We now have 12 people who are interested.

If you look at the website, you will see that in November you get 4 for the price of 3 on a weekday evening......

Normal cost is £37 per person, so if we split the discount it will be £28 each.

Better to get in soon.... if there is not a multiple of 4 who eventually take part, the final people will have to pay the full £37....

GET YOUR NAMES ON THE LIST!

Wednesday 20th now looks the favorite.

Some of you will know John Mills (big John) who I work with. He's been building a Kart with a home built jet engine on it from scracth. Yes he designed and build the jet. Today they tested it for the first time on a local industrial estate with a limited run area, they really needed an old airfield. Never the less it's very impressive.

The only availability is for next Tuesday 18th November at 7pm, arriving at 6:30pm. I have provisionally booked this.

YOU MUST CONFIRM WITH ME THAT YOU WILL ATTEND, as I am going to have to pay a deposit tomorrow, and whilst I love you all, that does not extend to financially....

The people who have said yes are as follows:

AlastairW
AlexanderW
AliG
Neil Smith
Colin Keighthley
Anto Baird
Ron Don
John Wallis
Phil Woodhouse
John Thompson
Paul M
Kay M
Les
Bill Scott
Gary S
Steve M
ChrisFozz
Chris L (?)
Jan L(?)

That makes 19, so if anyone else wants to come along they are welcome. (That includes your mates Phil?)

I know some people may find Tuesday more difficult, but that was all that was available.

Cost is £30 per head. £7 discount for a block booking.

IF YOU REPLY TO THIS MAIL SAYING YOU WILL BE THERE, THEN YOU OWE ME £30. EVEN IF YOUR LONG LOST GRANNY IN AUSTRALIA'S PET POODLE HAS HAD KITTENS THAT EVENING....

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I have organised events like this in the past and ended up paying for 3 or 4 people myself......
