A big night for your diary – and bring your flying, climbing, adventure loving pals as well.
Thursday 11th March – Skiddaw Hotel, Keswick - 7pm CSC Annual General Meeting - followed by:

'FLIERS - MY PART IN THEIR DOWNFALLS'

AN ILLUSTRATED PRESENTATION BY SIMON YATES

One of the most accomplished exploratory mountaineers of his time - Simon Yates’ twenty five career has taken him from Alaska in the west to Australia in the east, from the Canadian Arctic in the north to the tip of South America.

Best known for his role in the Siula Grande epic in the Peruvian Andes described in Joe Simpson’s book ‘Touching the Void’, Simon has climbed with many of Britain’s leading contemporary mountaineers over the years. His climbing has also inadvertently brought him into contact with some of the leading lights from the flying world.

From early alpine experiences with John Silvester - including an ascent of the north face of the Eiger - to guiding a group of paraglider pilots to the summit of Aconcagua (S.America’s highest peak) with Mark Dann, Simon will describe a tale of two adventure sport worlds, the strange bunch of misfits who inhabit them and the magical places that it takes them to.

Told in his unique understated and style, laced with dry humour - Simon offers his outsiders take on the fliers world, accompanied by stunning images collected during his travels.

Admission (to presentation) on the door £5 students £3 (AGM only - admission free)
