Hmmm, had the same thoughts about the weekend earlier in the week, but the cup seems to be emptying. May be a bit breezy for Model, but the Cheviots look a little lighter and the wind for Sunday could be a little lively with a couple of fronts approaching. But fingers crossed, the fronts could go through on Saturday night and the XFell effect may do the trick, RASP does show a lighter wind at the west edge of the pennines.

i think in all fairness though moneylaws is a great site in spring summer but i think without good thermals it would be difficult to hold a comp there.

however i think like the comp that was done 2007 at xfell with multile take off then this was a great way of having a good freindly club comp and beleive we need to now put the amber light on sunday 17th of october as this years paragliding club competition

Thermals !

Post by ron freeman »

Nothing wrong with Moneylaws (great site anytime) for a brilliant club comp and you don't need thermals...

I ran PG club comp on East hill one year and everybody had a great time ! (no thermals)

if the weather changes for the better then we could always have it on tittlington pike so could be realy interesting.

taken the piss ron its just i one person from the clan goes to the cheviots and flies its always clowdbase this thermals that yet never any tracklogs of people flying. yet yesterday there was at least 20 pilots flying then a load more flew horden till dark in some good conditions, i was even able to thermal on the low cliffs and get over 350ft above takeoff. that is good flying for the coast

my point was did wood get to cloudbase as there is one thing sail plains been tugged to cloudbase and then staying there however there is a big differance flying a paraglider on the wrong direction hill and getting to cloudbase.

Myself and Noam where on humblton hill around 2pm yesterday and saw a paraglider on the bell which did not stay up for long humblton seemed much more into wind and we had a couple of soarable flights on there - Noam managed longer than me (more bottle getting in close) but we had to scratch for everything

part of the problem with comps is confusion of when its being held,

I think gary has done the right thing he has chose a day and a site and stuck to it.

Now i can understand some people maybe discrumpled that it isnt being held in the cheviots but at the end of the day its the organisers discretion and his choice to make.

There are alot of people whoi tend to have an opinion about the comps yet at the AGM no one was interested.

Play nice and make the best of the conditions your given.

:P :P
If Acro was easy they'd call it Cross Country

Gary, you were given good advice for Sunday.. but its you choice at the end of the day..

Tracklogs.. not everybody is interested in downloading they just enjoy the flying for what it is ! I've had some very nice flights this year with no instruments...

Comps in the Cheviots Colin, the club should hold a comp going off the best weather forcast and this weekend it was the Cheviots.

what was the good advice given 18 pilots turned up and we did fly, even pilots coming all the way over from chatton thinking it was the best place to be for flying. i would of flown a lot longer but i landed to get things going. but given i fly more hours than any cheviot only pilot a year than a think i get the right site most of the time. you should of come with the hg and you could of flown all da without any problems expecialy with the phantom with the sailplanes .

we took a chance and it nearly paid off and i think if i had not been thinking of fun and new oilots i would of called a task to the cafe and beond.

better look next time cheers gary

Gary picked a site and today it did not pan out - unfortunate but he rallied the guys together and we had a fun day together.

A site was picked well in advance which allowed everyone to plan and get to.

It is easy to pick a the right site for the day after the fact.

If we had some stronger brave pants we could have all flown however the comp decision was not to.

Safe decision

So the cheviots would have been no good for a pg comp ronnie?

Was great to get back on the hill. Shame to see they have removed the chalk marks from Where I landed back in may!

But as stuart says, Gary made the call, and the troops rallied to it!

The accident report was given at the meeting Ronnie. If you read the meeting minutes Ronnie you would have appreciated that.

How far and for how long did woody Fly yesterday Ronnie? Just it seems that other Independant reports suggest it was not as good as perhaps you try to make out.

Although on reading your post it says woody had a good day on the bell.

Well I can say hand on heart that everyone who attended the comp today had a great day! :)

Ron you could have an argument in an empty room.

I recall your comp at east hill being quite a dangerous affair, with many piling in hard, and one having a flat spin and plf'ing.

Nothing in the minutes posted Alastair ? and if they are there it will be quite brief.. not much to learn about.

Fingers, wrong again ! there was one incident and all was ok if you read the reports 19 members had a great time 8)

Well maybe you should turn up at meetings Ronnie?

Actually-on second thoughts don't bother. Steve has I think summed up the general feeling perfectly.
