Your club needs you....and you!

Another day, another dawn, another AGM…..
“Move to DEFCON 3 …Mr Macittrick, confidence is high”
How this year has flown….. While most of us haven’t.
And every year around about this time I ask myself…
Where is the club going too?....
Will we flop this year? Are the good times over?, Has the interest in whether the club goes onto greater things waned to the point where there won’t be enough members at Wednesdays meeting to inspire anyone with confidence?
Does the club have a death wish ?
And why am I asking so many questions?
I know that Brian is standing down from chairman, which I think is a crying shame….he has done a fantastic job this year….Lots of wonderful little lectures, lots of behind the scenes effort….He’s took the flak, without a helmet, took the sniping without shooting back…..And I ask you……Has he not done every thing that we as a club of mostly morons and Neanderthals, asked of him?
Well done that man….the medal is in the post!

And before him….Bill Scott, and Alastair Wolf equally came up to the challenge that the club chairmanship threw at them……Best wishes to the person then, man or woman, who picks up that poisoned chalice on Wednesday.
I still have the folder that I used to take to the meetings when I was club chairman. And let me just write out again what I can still read there written on the vellum….

1 For your one year as chairman, do your best for the NHGC (as it was then)
2 Do not be stifled by anyone, (But listen to reason)
3Venture down new paths as often as possible, but suss out opinions whenever possible
4Do not be restricted by the narrow views of the committee, but be as diplomatic as possible……(Backstabbers abounded even then….It Aint a new thing)
5Remember that the membership look to you for stimulation and direction..

And so it goes on……Tosh to some no doubt…..But I didn’t do such a bad job when all was said and done….and lets face it, If you are as keen now….as I was then….then all your failings will be forgiven and we will in time all come to love you, no matter that your fathers name does not appear on your birth certificate.
So if you are reading this, and don’t intend to go to the meeting on Wednesday….Shame on you….For this once…Step out of that empty cupboard that you call your life….slip on your Ruby slippers, and get your self down to the Corner House..Your club needs you!
