Lenticualr
Lenticular clouds prevelant 70% of the time in the UK. Our very own Cheviot hills are renowned for them
This is caused by the hills upwind making the air bounce in the unstable layer of air trapped between the stable air below and above

Someone else said lenticular on another site, but square? I know how lenticular form and where they form, but this shape would suggest wind from two directions at right angles, is that possible, or probable?
I'm not entirely convinced.
Give me an explanation of the square shape and convince me!
This picture has not been photoshopped or processed in any way, some people know me to well!

1.) cold air advection cloud, which form as cool air blows over large fetches of water
2) In this case an aircraft has moved through a pocket of air with the right conditions for the contrail to form, meaning there is just a short section.
"The wind is blowing at right angles to (ie across) the contrail, and due to the right atmospheric conditions this is causing the ice crystals in that trail to spread outwards
3) YOU MADE IT UP!

Brian, It looks like two or three wave bars that are stacked up (on top of each other) this would give the square look.brian day wrote:Someone else said lenticular on another site, but square?
