Can't recall who or when but I thought Cross fell to Talkin Tarn had been done on a hang glider in the past. Still a great flight though Gary, but I bet you wished you'd gone to the long Mynd which was your first plan.

Never mind, it was still another excellent days flying at Cross fell, at least for the hang gliders. Steve Gill got suckered into the Cross Fell sink hole and bombed out just short of Alston, despite being told a hundred times that's not the way to go! Wendy went more sensibly up the ridge to the cafe and a thermal back from there got her a few miles further than Steve. Pete Batey pushed into wind on his rigid wing and got down to the golf balls and back, while some of us just boated around enjoying the views.....

you know it was not untill i landed did i realise i was almost at cumrew, now i think if i had realised i think i would of taken the gamble of no land out due to previous experiences. i will try and put on the video from when i turned my glider rounds and you will see the big cloud street going strait over cumrew, why is it every time you finish an xc that you always start questioning what you should of done

cheers gary

A wonderful introduction to X Fell for me on the rigid. I'd only flown it once before on a Paraglider. I found the lift very reliable with most clouds working. It looked pretty blue to the north of launch so I headed to the sunny slopes to the south on the edge of the cloud and this tactic got me a screamer which meant I could scoot along the cloud street into wind. I found well organized lift most of the time. My 30 sec averager maxed out at 6.8m/s up.
It'll be nice to fly it when the wind's "on" :D
Nice to put some faces to names too.
Here's to the next south westerly. I must get some All Terrain tyres organized.
