Saturdays weather was the best conditions i've ever seen for the jackpot attempt for £30,000 for the furthest flight over 100 meters.
Steve Elkins, the second last pilot to jump, was the man who achieved 99.8 meters!!! If the wind had been an extra few knots he would of done it...
I was very pleased with a flight of 86 meters with a take off wind of only 3 knots, ( I was the last pilot to jump).
Sunday, very simliar conditions; hot 30c ; clear blue skies and with a 3-5 knot southerly wind. The tide began to drop at around 3 o'clock, which virtually destroyed the light southerly wind.
With Steve winning the first day, he was the last pilot to jump and decided to go for a 2-3 knot tail wind takeoff
My two flights of 86 meters and 62 meters won the Condor class and the overall Birdman event but I would of without doubt traded in these flights for that fantastic 99.8 meter effort, well done Steve, this fantastic flight will make lots of pilots out there realise that the elusive 100 meters flight can be done by a hangglider.
The Shoreham airshow was only 10 miles away to the east this was an added bonus becuase all the competitors were taking off under B52's; Lancaster Bombers and Spitfighters and to top it all off we had a low fly pass from a war veteran Vulcan bomber...
What a fantastic weekend. ( Any takers for hanggliding? )
