New format;
Winter Comp; Jan 1st - March 31st to be scored on OLC points
Summer Comp; Jan 1st – November 30th to be scored on Open Distance Km
This will give pilots the ability to check their progress on the online league
The change was voted on; Majority for, Against Nil

Because.......Can some one explain why OLC for winter ? and open distance for summer...
It's what was suggested and voted on at the January meeting.
The thinking behind it was that with the winter Xc league being a bit of fun and micky mouse ridge runs if we all scored OLC it would make reading the XC table simple. Then in the spring / summer when the flying gets a bit more serious it was decided Open distance KM because "Most" flights are straight line XC and scores the actual distance flown. I think over the years of fighting about this scoring system the majority of good XC pilots prefered this method of scoring for real XC flying against the OLC method.
If anyone thinks it should be changed to a different format and they are prepared to implement it come to the next meeting and speak up.
The system was put forward, voted on and agreed at the meeting, so should stand for this years competition. The minutes were posted the day after the meeting and there were no objections raised at the following meeting. Case closed, end of story.
This argument happens at the 'end' of every season, with the same hapless few raising the objections, there is no excuse for 'not knowing', 'not understanding', 'not being told', whys or wherefores. If you don't agree, raise it at the meeting at the end of the year with your new ideas, the members will listen, as they did this year, make up their minds, vote and the idea with the most votes will be used for next year.

Bit of fun !
After some of the remarks above I will save my comments for the next meeting, lets hope there is more than the average 15 members turning up & voting about issues they understand.

That would appear to be paragliding only Gary. A quick look at the hang gliders shows Alan has 70km total. For some reason I can't get my browser to show all glider types.....gary stenhouse wrote:all in order what you have to decide is there a minimum 3 turn pint distance

there you go just like that you have the best open distance all done for you at the click of a button.
open xc league then click club then click year then click country then re click xc league button at the top and there you have it all the flights in order. all you have to do after that is check which olc you are using olc distance. olc km which is the one used by nxl whick is the 3 turn point. open distance km altitude and duration. it does not get much easier to check the only thing tha will need to be checked is if we our only allowing 1 flight per day. but on the nxl you can actualy do pre declared flights and that is more than 1 and without landing claim 2 flights

The idea was for the winter XC league (Micky Mouse flights and "Generally" ridge runs) to be scored OLC.Hi Dave, we are in a situation where the winter XC league is being scored using OLC from 1st Jan to March 31st but the Summer XC league is also from 1st Jan but its being scored open distance km I don't understand, do you ?
The summer XC league is where the real XC flying is done and it was agreed that this would be scored on open distance KM.
The flights that have already been done in the winter league carry on into the summer league hence what appears to looks like a double start date.
From the first of April just click on the open distance scoring section of the XC league (Not OLC) and it will instantly show pilots positions.
Again the idea for the OLC scoring during the winter section was for pilots who managed to get any sort of flying some points on the board this I thought would encourage pilots of all levels to see their name on the score sheet.
From April 1st when the real flying starts it will be measured in straight line distance as most flights are straight line.
Triangles, out and returns, flight to goal etc etc can maybe looked at next time. Some of the triangles I've seen submitted are a joke anyway. One end of the ridge to the other then get high and fly out as far as you can
As I've already stated if you are really serious on XC your flights should be logged into the NXCL which I know a few of you have done.
At the end of the day this is a club league and not the Worlds.
I hope this helps clear up your misunderstanding

All open distance end of story, I've never read so much clap trap & waffle John...this is getting ridiculous it should be one or the other.
Click on this... click on that...somebody want the job scoring this league using OLC & Open distance km...I've lost interest.

That's exactly what is is open distance from April 1st What is your problem? Remember this was voted on at a club meeting the way you like it.All open distance end of story, I've never read so much clap trap & waffle John...this is getting ridiculous it should be one or the other.
It doesn't need anyone to keep score it does it automatically. So stop frigging moaning and for a change say something positive instead of moaning every time you open your mouth.

Yet again...
Yet again more clap trap...this was proposed by you John as we all know !
your proposal was put through and voted on all in the space of 3-5 mins with no time to think about the changes...we should be using one scoring system for all flights...wether you think winter XC flights are micky mouse has no reference whats so ever to scoring...the system we use should be consistant & fair.
You say klick on the open distance from 'April' for the Summer XC league all you are doing is now scoring all you flights from 1st Jan this is not consistant or fair.

If the XC League is so complicated how does Gary know hes second?
Cumon ROn (or anyone)
A few clicks here and there
Select the Club from the little house icon
type of craft = HG or PG
Date = 2008
Country = UK
Then XC League > All categories
You then have a league for HG or PG for the year 2008 for the UK and for the NHPC.
5 clicks and all the scoring is worked out, no need to be using a calculator.
I think this might be the 10th time I have gone through this, I think the only thing to do is go with the majority. Those who know how it works take control and those who dont, take a back seat till you do. Go with the flow, everyone is using GPS......................... EVERYONE.
Cumon ROn (or anyone)
A few clicks here and there
Select the Club from the little house icon

Totaly agree Steve but
I understand all that you have said Steve and agree, my point is if open distance km is good enough for summer league it should be good enough for winter league and it will be consistant.
Last year I can remember the club agreed to adopt the NXCL rules...and they use one method of scoring - km and there is also a minimum distance for your flight to score.

Maximise your time & dosh do both Hanggliding & Paragliding
That's still paragliding only Gary........gary stenhouse wrote:there you go just like that you have the best open distance all done for you at the click of a button.
open xc league then click club then click year then click country then re click xc league button at the top and there you have it all the flights in order. all you have to do after that is check which olc you are using olc distance. olc km which is the one used by nxl whick is the 3 turn point. open distance km altitude and duration. it does not get much easier to check the only thing tha will need to be checked is if we our only allowing 1 flight per day. but on the nxl you can actualy do pre declared flights and that is more than 1 and without landing claim 2 flights

In this case Steve I was simply replying to Gary's posts which were supposed to be sorting out the scores for Ronnie, our competitions officer to figure out who had won the winter XC league. In both cases Gary's posts quoted only paragliding scores so naturally I thought it needed pointing out since this competition includes both hang gliding and paragliding, unless of course that's also been changed now........Fingers wrote:Dave, dave, dave................

Incidentally when I try to get the XC League to display all glider types it defaults back to paragliding. Is this a general problem or just a Mac/Firefox thing?

My fault for not spotting this way back when Steve, when you still had motivation. Strange that no-one else spotted this, or commented on it though....Fingers wrote:That's a problem dave... and unless I get a massive increase of motivation to fix, will remain un fixed.
I dont think its to much to live with? is there a comp for all and any glider? if so does a fixed wing flight count?
As far as I know the club competitions are for any hang glider or paraglider type which of course includes Tony's fixed wing (which is a Class 5 hang glider I think). Most cups are for all classes, but I think there are one or two which are specific to hang gliding and paragliding.
