As we are stuck in a run of easterlies at the moment so lots of flying at the coast I am left wondering why everyone's favourite site at the moment seems to be Horden.
Most of my flying on the Durham coast has been at Crimdon and I think this is a lovely site. Top landing is smooth and easy even in strongish winds, if you go down there's a big sandy beach with an easy path to get back up, a good road in, parking on tarmac and you're at the right end to do a decent size out and return to Seaham and back.
In comparison Horden has a tricky top landing in any sort of wind (as I've found out to my cost...twice!) tricky bottom landing on a black beach with a shelf in the middle of it, long haul back up to take off if you go down, a long muddy potholed track to negotiate to get there and hords of motocross bikes bombing up and down to spoil the peace of the countryside and splatter mud on your wing. If you want to do a proper out and return you are taking off in the middle so making it harder for yourself.
On Saturday I went to Crimdon first and the wind was spot on, but no-one was there so drove north to join the throng at Horden where if anything the wind was slightly more off and stronger.
I've now flown Horden on two days and find myself less than attracted to the place and can't really understand why everyone decides to go there rather than Crimdon. This is from a hang gliding perspective so paragliders may see it differently.
Horden or Crimdon?

Thanks John. I may come back to you on that, but there's another wing I'm after at the moment. Alan if you do have a Rumour leading edge can you give me a call. Tried to ring you yesterday but the number I have must be out of date.John Wallis wrote:I've got a cheap Kiss in the garage if you want to buy it Dave. Might be a cheaper option for you
