how did peoples flying go today?
well model proved to be a lovely day for sun bathing and great to check out the height of the ferns Kay. and i even tried out the bottom hg field for future referance but almost caught a thermal to take me back up.
a lovely day to be out and about and would have been even better to fly, but what the heck at least we were warm and not cold this weekend.
next weekend should be better as i will be in spain and the last time i was away for a holiday everyone was going xc crazy.

Sunbathing also on Clough
Was nicely on early, then over the back
Fly down from the back side - landing on slopes above the quarry in an nice gentle easterly, whilst a few hundred yards away the front of Clough was in a nice gentle westerly
A pleasure shared with Lance and Brian Doub from the CSC
So on to X Fell, arriving just as things were dying off. Another fly down
Mustn't complain, feet off the ground again which is something of a novelty this <summer>

Tinto South
Tinto was rather good in the end - claggy all morning just fairing up at 2 ish. Launched straight into a thermal but the options over the back are limited so pushed forward onto Dungavel and onwards to the motorway. The sky was blueing out from the West but I pushed onwards for the last cloud missed it and got low. A ploughed field saved the day and I drifted back with the wind to Tinto. Options for a triangle were limited as I doubted I would be able to make to jump to the clouds north and south. So back to Tinto to see Naomi launch and I took what I could off the ridge to the north and south to try and make an FAI triangle. It was 1830 and the day had had it so I drifted back to land back at the car to chat to Naomi and Dave Smart. I managed a 20 km FAI but the best score come from a flat triangle. All an unexpected treat..................

Got to XFell for 1400, the clouds were passing on a Southerly track but it was the NW face that was working. 
Didn't have the skills to hook one of the 5-6 up thermals for long enough to get much above take off! Boy they go down just as fast round the edges!
Quite something to wait to see the gust coming up the hill and launch in hope (blind belief) then get smacked.
Sorry to Lance and Dave, I didn't see how it could calm down that much???
Left the hill to the birds about 1900, they sure know how to rub salt into your already salty brow!
See you all out there for epic flights with the same conditions and a bit more skill (or meteo wind).

Stuart and I went to Latrigg, and with being an easy walk up we had 3 nice flights, landing in the cut field was a bit bumpy but fun as Gordie had a spot landing out for the students. Thanks to robin for the lifts back up to the top.
It's just nice to get the gliders out on grass after the take offs in turkey. Mind you it was scorching hot

This my year - 2009!
I, turned out grand. As expected as the haze burnt off it went very alpine everywhere (anabatic) and a gentle sea breeze came in over the Lakes and across to towards the Pennines. The sea breeze converged against the southerly wind higher up and cause a massive convergence line that sat over Clough and Blencathra for the afternoon. Some of the cumulus heads pushed up very fast and were most dramatic to watch, would of been strong flying under there.
I suspect it was anabatic at Cross Fell aswell, this is the reason why it was westly on the hill and southerly high up (think of the analergy of covering the landscape in treacle and then tipping it up side down to see where the treacle drips off, that's anabatic conditions).
As for flying the Lake were grest, Latrigg was lovely with a good few thermals thrown in. Walla was also busy with every pilot I spoke to had a 'grand day out'. Summer is here at last, well for a day or two anyway.
