BCC final

Post by AlastairW »

The final is due to take place on the 16/17th August, at the long Mynd.

The team so far is:

Brian Day
Neil Smith
Andrew Billington
Ron Don
Gary Stenhouse
Alastair Wolf

We are lucky in that we have such a strong club, and there are at least another half a dozen members who are equally rntitled to be in the team. I have picked the team on the basis of people putting in the most effort to attend rounds leading up to the final.

BUT..... if others do want to come down to the Mynd, I am certain we can swap team members between the Saturday and Sunday rounds......

ANd finally, an email from the organiser with some info about the weekend:-

Im off at the end of next week to Grand Bornand and to do an alpine
walk, but heres how things stand at present.

Top 6 teams are entered. I would not be averse to a few others coming.
The hangies are all invited and will have to organise their own thing.
(Pete Coad from Kernow could do this maybe??)

I will call the final if the weather looks OK or better for the 16/17
on Wednesday or Thursday (depending on what the forcasts are saying)
This allows me to get the hog roast sorted and the beer bought. I will
go there a day or 2 before anyway.

There will be an informal BBQ on Friday for whenever people arrive.
(Nothing fancy by the way. Chuck a couple of sausages on the fire. I
will provide basics) Its at Foxholes campsite and you pay your own fees.
http://www.foxholes-castle.co.uk/

Hog roast Saturday with beer at about 1 pound a pint. (There will be
an honesty box for this)

Stafford Evans will be Meet Director. (He is Avon but knows the score
on Meet directing.) It will certainly be open XC on Saturday and a
goal flight on Sunday so the awards can be sorted out.

We still dont have a driver for these dates so if there is anyone who
could drive a van please contact me. Hopefully Richard Westgate
(current XC league leader) will be there to fly with us, as a guide
(but NOT for Wessex) so a debrief could be interesting.

There will be a selection of prizes, awards and T shirts for the
victors and runners up.

My mobile is 077 92833991. I will be in my yellow VW camper.

This all sounds rather nice! Why do we have a winter anyway??

Good luck too all, although I'm sure skill will out and you won't need it. :)

With beer at £1 a pint I'm sure you'll all have a great time regardless of what the weather gods decide to throw at you!

Of course Gary you will score more points for your club on the G2 than you will on the Peak with it being a 2/3

Think about it

This is the latest update from Ken Wilkinson, the BCC organiser:

Im back from my travels, and the initial look at the weather seems to
indicate that it will NOT be good for the weekend. Both days look to
be wet and cloudy. Possibly too windy for PGs as well!!! Most forcasts
seem to coincide, the only variation being the level of direness. It
has to be said that these long range forcasts have been known to be
wildly wrong!!

I will make the final call on Wednesday night. Then its on to the
backup day of 30/31 August which will be DEFINITELY on, assuming we
dont go for this weekend. If its bad then, we will have the best
party/hogroast we can manage!! I would also like to discuss rule changes.

I dont know what happened with the 'Llandinam' final in 2019!! I cant
remove it. Just ignore it.

Ken

WATCH THIS SPACE!!!

If the weekend is canned, it looks like the backup will then be the 30/31st August. I know I am not available that weekend.

Just had the call.......

BCC final is now canceled for this weekend.

Instead it will be the weekend of the 30th / 31st August.

Actually it is not a bad thing.... the weather does look really bad down in Shropshire, but we MAY have a chance of some flying on Saturday...... East Hill here we come!!!!
