Hi All,
Apologies for picking your brains again, but I am a newby and I need a radio.
There seems to be a plethora of makes and models out there, which is to be recommended?
I like the small Yaesu that Ron Don has got, is there a particular make and model that has worked well for you?
Cheers again,
Jim
P.S. I'm on a budget the wife says!

Hi Jim
I have a little Yaesu which I think is great. It fits in your pocket easily and after speaking to Jocky, if you keep it in the band 143 something it picks up quite a good range. But when you start taking it up to something like 145 onwards the range is less. Thats what i was told anyway and mine works well. I got it from Steve at the shop.
Good luck.

Hi Jim,
The little Yaesu is a good radio to go for. You can get them with the wideband modification already done for you from the Sick & Wrong shop.
You will be able to find them cheaper on the net, but you will have to do the wideband modification for yourself. It is easy to do, but does involve sticking a screwdriver in the back of the radio and scraping of a surface mounted resistor.
These resistors are very, very, very small. You will need a bright light to see it, and a steady hand to do the scraping.
