Quite an Experience !!!
Well, Sunday 30th November was'nt looking too promising. We were all expecting too much wind..and there seemed NON on Model.
So, a few of us took a hike up Cringle...More to keep warm than anything else.
Dad was first to take off (No Suprise there..why change the habit of a lifetime !). But on this occasion he was just a bit too early..The cloud thickened even more and forced him out from the hill and down.
Only 10mins later although we still had cloud Paul took off, Closley followed by me. Chris and Andy B (North Yorks)
Well the following hour of flying will stick in our minds for a long time...and not just for the Cold
The flying was amazing..In and out of the Orographic amongst the iced up rocks of Cringle in the smoothest of winter air. Watching the sunset from above the cloud..Then landing and De Icing our wings..and our selves.
Anyway..Take a look

Orographic
Flying in orographic is very nice but stay well out in front when it start to form because it can develope very quickly and you can be socked in very think cloud in no time, pilots have been killed with this type of flying on hanggliders in this country and hangglider can speed up and get ot of trouble much quicker than a paraglider !
This advice is mainly for low aitimers with no experience flying with orographic.
Hope this helps our low airtimers.
