Pilot of the Month- Ettiquette, please help!

Post by Jim Bittlestone »

I have started using "NHPC-pilot of the month" on letters and introducing myself. Is this okay?
And how long can I call myself this?
Is it like when you get an OBE, for life?
Also I checked with the LCC officials (after introducing myself NHPC p.o.m.) to ensure I was still allowed to enter the "B" Comp and not forced to enter the "A" Comp and I just got a strange look.
I recently took a flight abroad with a budget airline, did all the usual things, dressed smart etc, introduced myself as NHPC pilot of the month, but did I get an upgrade? Did I heckerslike?
I'm not ungratious, I don't even mind not getting the hat and trophy (I made my own), it's just that it doesn't have the clout I thought it would.
I've checked all the local papers, nothing.... Not a sniff.... I must have missed it I suppose?..
It was Crimdon to Dawdon after all, come on!
Just for the next person to receive it, forwarned is for armed, there are some pretty ignorant folk out there, they act as if they've never heard of it.
Cheers
Jim-NHPC pilot of the month-May 2009
P.S. If the trophy and hat still don't arrive in July, don't worry. I've bent some welding rods to look like a paraglider and my spare firemans helmet has been decorated with felt tip. (It's heavy, uncomfortable and a bit sweaty, but it gets you noticed in Asda)

I can totally identify with you here, I came across the same apathy from folk when I got my 100m swimming badge; i hung around the swimming pool with the badge clearly displayed on the front of my speedos and even mingled on Hexham Forestreet in the said swim wear, but when I asked people if they had seen the badge marking my achievement they simply walked the other way?

What is the world coming to eh?

Ali

PS I’m really interested in seeing your sweaty helmet sometime it sounds like a real blighter!.

Something you all need to be made aware of is that our local newspaper (South Wales Evening Post) keeps a space especially for NHPC-pilot of the month, and if you were to arrive anywhere in S.Wales during the month proceeding receipt of this coverted award, you would be treated like royalty and recognised everywhere you go.You would even be showered with gifts such as ornamental duck houses, and even given somewhere to reside during your stay (usually a plush house with your own personal moat)....all costs will be covered by the tax payer.......even if you are wearing a sweaty helmet.

On a more serious note, I must add that when I first noticed this award whilst browsing your website I thought what a great idea, and will mention this during my next club meeting, it's just a bit of fun every month and with the british weather we need some cheering up.

Clearly this young upstart knows not the actual importance of the POM award. These low airtimers.........scratching ridges....forgetting rights of way....yada yada yada

Keep your helmet polished Jim and don't be upset by these mindless comments.

One thing I have noticed though, since you've become (Club) Pilot of the Month.....is that you've lost the ability to top land. Either that or you really love the beach at Horden and enjoy the walk up??????

See you at Dawdon. Make sure you wear those tight hot pants like your picture.
You are only as good as your last flight........

You've got to remeber that there's a big picture of you standing all proud with a canny pare of nut huggers on the front page of the web site.
Can't see your 50m badge but it's obvious where you keep your spare socks!!!
Whose rod is that sticking up your back?
Bet your hemlets white!
See you out there!!!!!

Surf crazed and dazed

P.O.M.

Post by RichardC »

Jim,

Don't feel too bad about the lack of recognition for the P.O.M.

Think yourself lucky you're not Gary. He's a cfa, floorlayer, managing director, nutter, isle of white kite surfing champion 2000, british speed water ski champion 1978, 2008 hg winter xc champion and member of the garagil five, and still no red carpets on take off.

I would imagine: Gary Stenhouse CFA,F,MD, N,IOWCSC200,BSWSC1978,NHPCWXCC2008,GFM would require a rather large business card.
