Kendal Mountain Festival

Post by AlastairW »

As Brian said, it was a little wet in the Lakes this weekend!

But we made it across to Kendal for the Mountain Festival, and went to see Alain Robert speak on Saturday night.

You will probably have seen him on the recent channel 4 programme, climbing the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpar.

What an amazing guy.

He opened by saying he had had an accident whilst climbing at the age of 19, falling 50 ft head first, and landing on outstretched arms, smashing both wrists completely, to the point where he was told by the doctors he would never climb again.

And then later we moved on to a talk by Jocky and a film about base jumper Karina Hollekim, who was supposed to be there but was taken ill.

Kay and Paul and Jan and Chris also made it.

A grand night out!
It is sad to measure your life in terms of hours flown...... but even sadder not to.........

Brilliant weekend........The new John Silvester film, Birdman of the Karakorum is amazing, on the edge of your seat stuff worth getting the DVD (I know S&W are selling them)
We should do a group outing there next year :) That is to Kendal, not the Karakorum :!: :!:
Feel the fear and do it anyway!
