On a very serious note - Schools SHUTTING
On a serious note this is shocking and should be addressed.
The Schools are the biggest child minders in the country and should be open unless the school has blown up. The whole country is grinding to a halt, people can not get to work because no one can look after the kids.
Is there any hospitals closing? any firemen refusing to goto work?
Teachers, TOUGHEN UP YOU SOFT COCKS, your causing caos back hear in the REAL WORLD.

I eventually got to my school yesterday morning [normally 20mins, took over 1hr] to find my deliveries cancelled and my staff and teachers having major problems getting into school. School buses running so late that out of 700 children only 350 turned up!!
You might think we should try harder to keep the school open but if I cant get supplies delivered and staff in then we cant provide a service to the school. The school has no option but to close

Girlpower!
Decision to close for our kids school was made the night before at 6pm! Thats not much of an effort to get to work I am afraid.
Even if there is just a skeleton staff arriving, this is better than closing. For the sake of just a few people not going to work, this causes hundreds of parents having to take the day off. Thousands of businesses not able to work correctly.........
I would think it pretty obvious it is very important that teachers get it work.
Thank to lord front line service don't take such a flippant attitude.... And if it is a heath and safety bollocks then this needs changing.
Sorry Jan but to give up getting to work at 6pm the night before is a disgrace would be a sackable issue in the real world.

the amazing thing is those who do not get paid if they dont show find away into work. yet those who get paid if they dont are not so keen.
take tuesday i set of 6.45am for 10.30 appointment in selby yorkshire just prior to ariving the school at scarborough said they were now closed. i arived at selby at 9.30 to see no cars and an empty school lucky for me the caretaker was there got in and priced job. 11 am rang scarborough to see if caretaker would be there so headed of and done the 54miles by 12.30. then of to next job in scarborough left there at 1.30 for the office and was back at the office for 4.15pm.
the thing people forget is it is your responsability to get to work, so if you choose to live in the country miles from your place of work then you should know your problem when bad weather comes.
the whole problem in the uk people comute to work from far away, yet it they thought about there location your time traveling to work is dead time and not paid for, so live close to work and save lots of time and money not traveling.
cheers gary

Alastair lives right in the sticks, and he got to work ok!
Someone needs to take things in hand here.
Head Masters close the schools at you and your staff cost, loss a weeks pay for every day the school is closed. As the real cost is far greater, for one teacher being off you will have around 50 people who can not get to work. And some of these might have real jobs that they will not get paid for being off, or be company owners or be self employed.
Trouble is that most teachers have never left school so they have no idea what it is like to have to earn a living and keep a job.
There just big school kids.....
"OOOhhh WOOOOPPPEEEEE look theres SNOW.... HURAAAA Lets close the School....."
"But what about the rest of the county getting to work?"
"WHAT?...... never mind that...... THERES SNOWWWWWWWW......"

Typical whinging bloody parents. They produce the little monsters then want someone else to look after them and educate them, someone to blame when the little brats hit puberty and tell the parents what they think of their parenting skills.
You should be grateful to us for giving you more quality time with your dealy beloved little brats!
Now,,, back to playing in the snow!!!!
Or, more seriously,,,, it's the damn Nanny State we live in and the poncey lawyers after a quick buck that has closed schools. The Authorities are frightened of claims against schools when accidents happen. It would be all too easy for a lawyer to say that the school had not done it's duty of care and cleared all the snow from it's premises and ensured the playing fields were snow and frost free for the children to play on. Keeping them in at break and dinner time caused a nightmare and we were accused of refusing them their human rights to freedom.
Our phone lines were actually choked yesterday with parents asking why we were open. So,,, over to you parents!!!!

totaly true brian about the nany state we live in
my lads have had to get to durham newcastle close house all in vans though a bit delayed. but i wonder if they had an accidnt would it be my fault, probably as i did not do a risk assesment on there drive to the job.
i know we all have jobs to do but we all now fear that we may be at risk of been sued. the one thing is there is no death penalty in the uk so even with corporate manslaughter a couple of years at best. and if your skint not a bad place to be. infact off to one tomorrow
cheers gary

Most schools are closed Friday also, what do you think of that Brian?
Health and safety my arse, sod Health and safety..
What are the health and safety issues for firing a gun at a Muslim in Afghanistan? A police man having to disarm a robber with a knife? A nurse having to wipe some guys arse?
IT IS UP TO YOU TEACHER, TO MAKE A STANCE......... Unless you challenge something NOTHING WILL CHANGE.
These schools need proper management, this is the problem. I can assure you NO ONE said to there boss at 12 noon, I am not coming in tomorrow because of the snow.
PS
Nice attitude towards the education of the UK's youth and there parents.

funny talking to a teacher who works at one of the schools in gosforth that was open. turns out that over 50% OF KIDDS DID NOT TURN UP YET HIS SCHOOL WAS OPEN. so looks like it could be as much the parents.
not me though emma was sent off only to get to the gates and turned round when the school was shut.

Today the Seaton Sluice middle school has been open, the first school has been closed. The schools are within one mile of each other.
All to do with Heath and Safety?
No, I don't think so.
Wallis has a good suggestion, but this is because he has the imagination and need to over come problems. Clearly something lacking from some of the teachers, who clearly are unable to get to work unless aunt Bessy is at school to cook them their lunch and rub there tummy if its a little sore.
Management is whats needed, the pillocks closing schools have no idea, they are no more grown up than the kids.
And talking to a teacher today, calling him a lazy sod to his face, told me he thought if the snow did not clear at all, they would be off Monday.!!!!!
UNBELIVABLE, its a good job the parents of these teachers had more balls, or we might be all talking German now.
EDIT
PS
You might tell I am prity pissed off about this, I can exactly see the impact on our business yesterday and today. It must be nice to be paid by the government, regardless if you turn in for a year because you havve a hurty tummy or not. But having to earn a living, I can not afford such luxury.
PPS
Brian your doing a real good impression of a "Middle Class" Ponce

the differance today 35 years ago probably 90% mams did not and most did not have cars so walking and using the bus was the norm. now people think it is no longer there problem to get to work, as if they take there car then if there street is blocked they would not consider walking to the end of the street to get a bus. single mums or dads is the biggest problem and you are now rewarded to be one as apposed to being bannished years ago. the great meal ticket.
but sadly we are now in 2010 living are lifes in a broken world
ho hum off to work now stockton and scarborough again in the quest for work to keep others employed.

Long time since you paid me a compliment Steve.Brian your doing a real good impression of a "Middle Class" Ponce
The surf this morning was really good, thanks for asking, now a nice warm breakfast and off to play on the skis.
Trouble with John's suggestion is that the poor little kiddies would refuse to do it, backed by their middle class reactionary parents. It would give them blisters and they wouldn't be able to sit in the loft playing on their computers because they were too tired to walk up the stairs.
Do as Ronnie says, have some quality time with your kids, get outside in the fresh air and enjoy yourself by making the most of this lovely weather. The last time this happened was in 1963 when Ronnie and I were the ones enjoying it with our families.
See you out there!!!!!

The cloak of health and safety
Your right Steve it's most to do with health and safety it all about this giverments obsession with statistics.
The schools won't open because if half the kids don't turn up it looks bad fir their attendance records and statistics.
It's politics not sAfety.

if your self employed ntheres no option you have to go to work I have driven over 4000 miles in the past three weeks never been stuck carried a shovel just in case
when I was a kid I remember snow drifts being half way up the front door but I cant remember ever getting a day of school for it.
It does seem that the world is a bit more limp wristed these days
but there again things might be different if I got paid vast ammounts like teachers even when I wasnt there

Will we ever get to fly again
or can someone teach me how to ski

I HATE COMPUTERS
So it's back to the parents again for not insisting that their kids attend. As I mentioned earlier, we had more complaints from parents than kids or staff. Bunch of urbanites. The schools won't open because if half the kids don't turn up
Maybe tomorrow? Will we ever get to fly again Mad Mad
If not, I've got spare skis, yie them to your feet, point down hill, if you don't work it out first time, I'm sure you'll manage after a couple of attempts!
See you out there!!!!!

all the schools were closed in mexico. Ali had to pay the children 10p to pack his glider every day. why dont we take a leaf out of the mexicans book. close all schools and pay children to help paragliders all over the uk. thus increasing tourism, economy etc etc

steve if you had your children earlier in your life you would have missed this weather interlood. caused by the the elnino from the gulf of mexico.
which also and much more seriously effected my holiday. next time plan your parenting around global weather conditions or stop complaining. do you hear me and ali crying ourselves to sleap about the elnino F"ing up our plans.

What I would like to do Neil is live in Narnia like Brian and Ron Freeman. Where one can frolic freely in the snow all day every day and no one ever has to earn a living. But as the wife likes to have a roof over her and the childrens heads, and I like sex, I will have to stay top side of the rabbit hole.

Schools
Narnia!
I managed to get to Leeds and back to work in temperatures of -10c in snow drifts all week and did an interview with the acting head of a school in the dales that's surrounded by 2 foot of snow but all the kids are in school and all is well.
Funnily enough I m a public servant but I don't get paid if I don't turn up so why should others?
Keep calm and carry on.

Just good planning and a good education that was used! What I would like to do Neil is live in Narnia like Brian and Ron Freeman. Where one can frolic freely in the snow all day every day and no one ever has to earn a living.
PS. I've put a video of Narnia on youtube for you to watch, so that you can see what it's like. You will notice people enjoying themselves outdoors without a computer or computer game, you will also notice that it's not far from middle class suburbia where all the middle class ponces play.
