Just a few words.

Post by MadDog »

When I was just a little lad, my mother used to say:
“Eat all your pie crust up and you will grow up to be a babe magnet”
Well I didn’t eat all my pie crusts up, and just look what happened….
So …..What’s your excuse?
Will this winter ever be over?
I seem to have been embroidering since time began, just look at this shawl I’ve just finished…..
What’s it like having a life?
What’s it like flying a proper glider?
Isn’t memory a funny thing?
And after you have had a couple of abortive runs to the Model ridge for less than zilch, how easy it is to forget the great day we had on Clough Head two weeks ago when, Brian, Gary and Moi flew our socks off for hours, eventually finishing up in Grasmere…..
Now that’s what winters flying is all about….
Shame, that the memory fades so fast….and the month eventually misfired back into nothing….
And there goes your bit of satisfaction again…In this world of dross…
What’s it like being Pilot of the month?
Does that mean you have flown?
Still…..Does a day out in the sunshine, and the snow shimmering with stardust flakes stretching way back to the summit of Cross Fell count for anything?
I think so!
And that’s what we got on Saturday….one take off….and one hell of a sweaty, slip sliding carry back to the top…..But who cares?….I still love it….and you know that you can’t win them all..
(Paul Smith excepted)
And let’s face it, a nil wind take off from High Cap for a sled ride to the bottom field is better than a kick in the teeth any day…..and to round off your day in the Cumberland with a plate of chicken korma is as close to heaven as you will get on this planet….
Not to mention the sun tan….and the Chauffeured trip, and the camaraderie, and the six pounds petrol money…..
For Nowt!
And it all means that Brian can hang onto the polo ponies for that little bit longer
Hang on while I pinch myself.
So be assured….the good days are coming….and although this winter seems to be giving us a hiding….hang on in there and we will eventually give it a licking
I only hope this dress making caper does me some good and I become a better pilot because of it….
Want to buy this smoking jacket?
Too late…..It’s just gone up in flames
Now how corny is that?

And here’s the happy bus just below the radar masts

I agree John this winter seems to have gone on for ever as far as decent flying days are concerned. I just don't seem to have the time anymore to go out on iffy forecasts and waste a day doing nowt. Thankfully got plenty to do without paragliding at the moment like watching dancing on ice :)

But come on when is all this *hite weather going to stop? Probably in time for the thermals to go berserk and frighten the shit out of us like last year.

Once the weather does break it'll be great and we can all get together again and have some great fun.
