Any ideas?

Post by brian day »

I was clearing a classroom at work today, no I've not been given a cleaners job, I'm not that important, and I came across this photograph. The classroom had been used for Health and Social Care, so it has nothing to do with the last occupants. The school is only 5 years old, though I suppose the photo could have been brought in from one of the two old schools.
Can anyone recognise anything / anyone? I thought it may be East Hill, any other suggestions?

Yes Dave, John Miller thought that, he also thought one of them may be Selby.
Would anyone like the original photo?

Nope, thats not Selby, he's much too clean looking, I dont think Selby's in the picture. I dont think its the training slope either, you can see the road behind the trees and its too high for the training slope. I think its Titlington main face RH side.

The tall guy at the back looks like Mike Mavin who was my instructor in the early nineties when the school was owned by Clive Brewit, before Selby took it over, so that dates it to about late eighties, early nineties. I'd agree with John, it's not the training slope at Titlington, which is known as Shepherds Law but I'm not sure where it is.

Definitely Mike Mavin (Tall guy middle of photo) I think it's the west north west corner of Titters and the track at the bottom goes up to the small monastery.

P.S. Could that be a young Steve Gill on the right hand side.

Found another 2 photos in the room today, one shows the instructor to have a beard.
After further investigation, I've found that it was an activities day from school. Two science teachers thought it would be a good idea. 'We were always tethered, you can't do much damage from that height can you!'
Ahhh, the days before Health and Safety,,,,,, they also used to do, 'sheep wrestling' and tree climbing.
I can just imagine filling in the RAs and sending them off to county now! I'm sure they wouldn't be returned as approved activities,,,,,might just try for a laugh!!!!
