Spent yet another hour of ground handling at Cross Fell on Monday night waiting for the wind to drop off. Quite happy with the results and that feeling that you're getting there. Then on Thursday night at East Hill...First take off OK without incident.....Then second take off I kept having a problem with the canopy over flying me. I tend to get this when the wind is slightly higher say 14 - 16 MPH. I've tried most of the suggestions like braking a bit quicker, and stepping back with the wing to take the power out of it, turning quickly and keeping weight on the harness etc....
But every now and a again I have a daft half hour where the canopy over flies me. I guess it's something I'm not doing right when the wind is slightly fresher.
Any pointers would be appreciated

Use the As n Cs method, you are then in control of the speed of the wing all the way up.
Or,
Go to the coast and fill a few cells with sand, that slows things down a bit!
Or,
Fly in light winds
Or,
learn to bounce well!
Or,
stick to hang gliding and we won't talk to you!
Or,

Done That - best thing I ever learnt - although I use the DsUse the As n Cs method, you are then in control of the speed of the wing all the way up.

the gist of the situation is that the wing is overflying you because your over powering it.
Next time your out in similar conditions try a few aborted launches first, i.e. building a wall launching it ten or so ft off the deck then bringing it back down again. This'll give you a better appreciation of what the air is doing and the amount of input you need to give the wing to get it airborne.
The point about stepping into the wing as it is rising is valid but takes a little practise before being effective. Timing is everything, and perhaps it is better just to remember to let your body move with the wing than resist it in such conditions. ...think about what your feet are doing not just your hands.
Think about where your launching your wing. I know it's frowned upon but I like to walk my wing down the hill a bit in strong condition as typically the air is lighter and cleaner than on the top.
Alternatively I can show you few paragliding techniques in return for a few tips about how to grow such an attractive porn tash.

John, there was nothing wrong with your'e teqnique the other night on East Hill, I was watching and it just seems your'e glider doesnt like East Hill (can you blame it) I didnt think it was overflying you, it was just collapsing with the shitty East Hill air. The wind was coming from the ESE and was generating very little lift, it was very gusty and we couldnt even stay up in 15-18MPH thats got to tell you something. Try flying a proper hill next time and see what happens, dont worry about your'e teqnique, its fine.
