BCC - This is the last weekend for rounds....

Post by AlastairW »

This is the last weekend for rounds before the final...... we are almost certainly guaranteed a place in the final, even if we do not compete this weekend.

BUT..... I understand that in previous years if the final weekend has been a complete washout, the result has been decided from the league table.

So given that we are currently top, it would seem sensible to enter this weekends rounds, and hope we can maintain our current position.....

At the minute the weather does not look brilliant, with Saturday better than Sunday. It looks like it will probably be blown out, but is still to early to make a call.

NW backing W..... possibly a ridge run at Cleugh??

Anyone who wants to take part please let me know......

Yep, I'll be around as well, ready to kick butt (mooning) (ninja) (rofl)

Although,,,, having done some weather checks, there seems to be a little competition with the swell forecast and an epic Sunday on the cards, so I may have to make a later call on this one as the forecasts for the wind are changing quite quickly at the moment, with Sunday looking the better option for flying,,, but who knows?
See you out there!!!!!

Well bugger me if there's enough to go around I'll prop up the B team for Sunday if that's when it's on.

An e mail from Ed Cleasby tonight.....

Could you all please give me your take on this w/e. It looks OK for
both days with a question over wind strength on Saturday and lighter
but pre next brief depression Sunday. The southern clubs have called
this w/e ON ...... but may only get the Saturday as the depression hits
them early Sunday.

If you could get back to me by 1pm tomorrow I'll do the business with
the website and confirm or cancel just for the Saturday initially.
Yours teams needs to be put on readiness. Sat looks westerly
............. options? We will also need a meeting point.

Thanks

Ed

PS.... if we want the B team to compete I will have to persuade Ed to let us enter a second team.....

Latest update on this weekends rounds, from the BCC website:

SATURDAY

Round Details
Organised by: Cumbria Border Raiders
Round Date: 2007-07-28
Location: Lakes and area
Max Teams: 6
Round Status: Proposed
Directions: Possibly the Creamery at Hawes ........... to be confirmed,
Notes: Decision after 1:30pm FridaY.

SUNDAY

Round Details
Organised by: Cumbria Border Raiders
Round Date: 2007-07-29
Location: Lakes and area
Max Teams: 6
Round Status: Proposed
Directions: To follow .....Could the Creamery, Hawes ..... to confirm.
Notes: Decision to be made Saturday pm

It appears that because of the air display in the lakes, the decision has been made to go to the Dales. Possibly Wether Fell.

My concern is that tomorrow looks to be blown out. We could however possibly fly Lowca on the Cumbrian coast. Anyone with any ideas, there suggestions are much appreciated.

Latest thoughts from Ed......
Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi

A decision will need to be made re Saturday ........ we can leave Sunday until later Saturday.

My take is this:

Saturday ...... bright, dry .... but could be too windy (westerlies) until after tea. This will be a better day in the south with lighter winds ..... they will fly down there I believe. We may struggle .... but winds could be a tadge lighter and we could be OK.

Sunday ...... sunny, light winds , more northerly and looking good. South a no go ...... depression and rain. We could/should be OK but would be a blow if we relied on Sunday and that depression moved further north, quicker.

I am open to advice ..... another possibility is that we call Saturday on but for a later meet up time ..... say 12pm .... this means we could see what the day brings before travelling. It would mean every team member going through their team leader for the OK at about 10:30 latest. If we had the hours 2pm to 6pm say it would still give plenty of task/flying time.

I've got your view Kev and I think you though just go for Sunday ....... I'll check the BCC weather at 1:30 today and make my call after that. As I've put the round up I'm the only one can make that decision in the website. I think my proposal is the one I've outlined above ....I'd like to wake up and just give Saturday a look.

Thanks to all the CSC pilots who got back to me ........... a good team. I'll group mail you separately later.

Ed

Latest update from Ed Cleasby:-

All team Captains:

Both days have been confirmed as ON on the BCC website.

Saturday is 50/50 and subject to the following. Rather than travel in
vain would you please call me on my home number 01524242202 at between
10:15 and 10:45am. Following discussions I'll text out to each by 11am
latest whether we go for Saturday or not. If Sunday is still looking
good then that is currently seen as the most likely option.

The meeting place for Sat is the Creamery Car park at Hawes for 12:15
..... if we go for it and no changes of venue are suggested. My text
will confirm ON/OF; time/place. It will be up to you to inform and
ready your teams. Sunday still requires a site to be discussed.

I'm sure we can get a round in and a good task ..... questions
currently is where and when.

Hope this proves workable to all.

Ed

I will ring Ed in the morning and then post on the website. I will also ring round team members.....

Saturdays comp has now been CANCELLED.

Winds blowing 25mph in valley bottoms...

Tomorrow (Sunday) looks much better day. Forecast NNW. Anyone with a site suggestion anywhere in the North?? (Model is forecast for showers tomorrow....)

Dont think I will make it tomorrow.

We're off to a bit of a doo tonight, will most likely see me squining through a foggy haze in the morning.

I am pushing for Model Ridge/Carlton, which seems to me to be the best option.

The West looks like it will now be blown out tomorrow.

I am off out in 30 minutes for the night..... any team members please keep an eye on the board.

Tomorrows team:

Ron Don
Neil
Gary
Chris Foster
Bill Scott
Alastair Wolf

There is also now an Entry fro NHPC Blue, so if anyone else wants to turn up and compete, if you can get six members together you can have a team!

Lighter winds but the questions is where ......... it would seem to
come down to Model, Wether or Grove Head.

Could all team Captains talk about this about 8 - 9 am tomorrow. I'll
also call you tonight. Team memebers will need to get their directions
from Captains before travelling.

CSC team please call me on 07808394895. before travelling. You can

Sunday Latest

Post by John Wallis »

Spoke to Ed tonight and he's in a reet dilemma where to go. The weather is now saying more showers in the east....The west is starting with low cloud but getting good to very good vis by noon but with heavy showers forecast. The wind however is supposed to be lighter as the ridge of high pressure pushes in. They've been flying Bewaldeth and Lowca tonight.

He's still going to phone around the captains tomorrow morning after he's looked at the forecasts.

my choice would be model at least if there our showers you have somewhere to go as the lakes could be to north to be good at clough and to north for lowca etc. i think model will work and with instability around it may be good for xc and if its windy i have the ibex

Todays round is now CANCELLED.

Already the wind is blowing upto 25mph on Wether |Fell, XC weather is showing 15 mph at St Bees, and Carlton, our one hope, is already averaging 14mph.

Ed has I am sure made the right decision
