Saturday looks the only flyable day over the week-end but where to go?

If there's enough north maybe Moneylaws. WNW Wether Fell or Clough head. True west Tailbridge ???

Anyone got any theories. I fancy it could be an xc sky early on but may over develop as the day progresses

Stu, myself and a couple of Johns are gonna try Hownam Law. Coldsmouth as a fallback. Hang gliding of course.

Was hoping, but not really got a clue at the moment, looks almost westerly to me, stronger in the north ....stiffies to hownam. I was considering that, but it now seems a tad strong for pg's, although I'm not ruling it out.
So,, sounds like a positive maybe!

Now Sunday, that's a little more obvious....

Clough Heeeeeead is the place, or Swinside, Ullock, Buttermere Moss e.t.c. the chose is endless. It could be a little strong though as the lapse rate and current temperatures mean it will be aorund freezing at 3 grand. So if you do decide to venture this way be prepaired! The thermals could well remove footwear and any other loose fitting items.

However please note Bewaldeth is closed for the Bank Holiday as there is a motorcross event on, pass the word.

wendys wetherfell wnw 8-16mph

carlton 7-20 wnw

looks quite fresh up north and given the temperature i would say the wind thermic levels will be strong and blow out.
wetherfell could be good for the big one but be there early before its blown out. or get out the hanglider.

for me its another day in king arthurs seat, but since i have taken up knitten it has made the day pass so much quicker. orders will be taken once i have my full selection knitted.

Dave Hume rang me to say the hang gliding league is on on Whether fell so it will be quite busy.

55 degrees north is giving 270 10 knots and possibly turning wsw

take up knitting if you want a good day borders gliding given 10-24 knots westerly so looks blown out you could ring ali or chris who are up in scotalnd and will be on the hill so could save yourself a long drive.

Windspeed highest 24kts
Average windspeed 10kts

I don't know where there wind thingy is but it does seem a little gusty

Just got back from driving a million miles and no flying. On the way to Hownam this morning the sky looked epic and the wind dropped the further north I went. Could see the two 4x4 on the top of the hill and decided to have a walk up even with the sky now looking decidedly dodgy. Got a third of the way up and the skies opened. I hid under a tree waiting for it to pass but it lasted a while. I got back to the car soaked. Decided to do some more home work in Wooler for the BCC round restaurants camping cafe etc. Then got a call from the mad dog (well named) to say it was improving. So drove all the way back to Hownam and the sky was still looking dodgy. Nodded off in the car and was woke up by the rain braying on the car roof. Went home.

Tony Anderson rang to say the skys had been epic everywhere except the East coast where there was some massive CBs.

I've no doubt there will have been some BIG flights done today. The Cheviots fail to come up with the goods yet again.

Lowca came up with the goods. On arrival we were met with a classic sky full of beautiful cumulus forming out out sea as well as in land due to the 10 degrees c temp. Sunny and soarable all day, with a slowly backing w-sw wind.

Inland today it was as expected...booming, people have been flying on the big stuff but I expect it was not for the faint hearted. Sky is a lot more friendly now and there will be some good evening soaring to be had.

Chris 'Lal feela' Little completed his first days tandem training, managing a number of flights as pilot with Palo as passenger. Boy did well and everybody commented on his ability and understanding of what he was undertaking. Finished the day with a great big smile on his face, and the proud owner of my Airwave Combi Tandem (the small size one!). So you have been warned the 'Little's' will be appearing strapped together on a hill near you soon!

sounds like weather fell was a place to be but without injury. from what i beliave two helicopter rescues 1 hanglider in power lines broken feema. one paraglider big asymetric and crashing, far as i know he has been taken to the spinal unit at middlesborough, so hopefully all ok.

broughton heights sounds like the bpc was working and some made the goal, although some blamen there new gliders for there flop over the back. well done all paid for all the comps so bit disapointed to be involved with the spirit

Three of us took off from brigsteer (again) Shaun flew to Barnard Castle not bad considering he last clipped in 4 or 5 years ago Mike and I continued on and I left Mike at Richmond and I continued on a little further for a scoring distance of 95km that is 292 km in a week. Now Gary that could be a record

Birkitt.......you are a god and the rest of us mere mortals are just not worthy, and all that distance done from the smallest site the CSC has!

However the 100k barrier from a CSC site still has to be beat, but the way Birkitt's flying you will have to be quick!

awsome it seems that the big distances our often done from the smaller sites? is this the fact you can safely take off when the wind would be a bit fresh on the big ones?

Birkitt a little story for you.

When you landed in Corbridge last Monday Peter Rutherford a NHPC member was having a pint in the Devils. He still had his hang glider tied to the roof of his car from the day before. He phoned me to say "I'm sure I've just seen someone pass the window walking down the road with a paraglider on his back. Have you heard of anyone going XC?"

He thought you might have seen the hang glider on the car and come looking for a lift back.

Peter drove a few miles the day before picking Andrew Maltby up from Hexham and brought him all the way back to Crossfell for his car. I don't think he was looking forward to driving more miles but you didn't appear at the pub so he couldn't help in the end.

I then read on here that it was you and you'd got the bus (Can't do that with a hang glider)

Some excellent flights there well done.

The CSC only accept straight line distance from take off to landing for site records, so far this has still to be done.
