Post by gary stenhouse »

after looking at the nxl and seeing the flights done each weak done on the samr hills as we have been on. are we cursed not to fly the big flights as we take the small hill syndrome with us. or are we banned from flying the big ones from other sites.
just stiring but look at the flights from the last 2 weeks and we are not fairing well against the competetition?

cheers gary

Gary, you will find that the pilots who can fly big Xc distances can fly big hills and they can also get away (Xc) from small hills.

The majority of our club pilots tend to fly big hills with big thermals, nothing wrong with this but when you learn to get back up to cloudbase from as low as 200ft agl you are ready to fly big XC's...

Also going Xc is not a competition its something that you will do when you feel ready to go over the back and explore !

Fair point Ron I see why you prefer small difficult hills but from only 200 ft your main concern is a safe landing - I'm sure you will agree.

There are many ways of enjoying your flying XC is only one of them. Don't be too frustrated Gary, you'll be back at clowdbaste soon :)

The Misk, I'm sure many times you have got back up from 200ft ?

Of course you pick your landing field well in advance and stick to it but its great fun when you catch a thermal very low and take it to base !

Get back up from 200 ft - 60 m Ron? No I can't claim many of them - and if
I have it will have been nothing but luck. Of course I don't plan in advance quite the same as you do :-)

So what's it to be Gaz, your at 60 m on a gusty day, are you coring it to clownbase or setting up a safe landing?
