Flying the Cheviots during August Bank holiday

Thinking of flying in the Cheviots during August Bank holiday.

I know it's a bit off to tell what the weather will be like, however which are the best sites to try weather permitting near Alnham.

If it's South West we usually go to Cross Fell That's positive advice

if its light south east then i think hownam could be the best place to be if you are looking for a club site record. so far to my knowledge no one has gone xc from this site so a good one to take.

i hear the hills in alicante could be good over august bank holiday

Right behind Alnham is Hogdon Law --- Nice N easterly,
Further to your west behind alwinton is Lords Seat SSE,
To your East is East Hill and west Hill --- SE & NW,
If its SW you can fly Titlington pike near Powburn, But as John Wallis Says you are better Travelling to Cross Fell if its SW.

If it's Northerly climb the Yeavering Bell You will get right to the top then it will switch to the east it always does it's what the Cheviot wind Gods do. They haven't had much fun this year so will probably turn the wind south

Think it will still be the place to be as hear that terrain looks epic.

Ploughed fields, grassy fields, tree lines, etc etc.

Besides the sun always shines on the rightshuss!!!

The Cheviots could be the answer this weekend as Crossfell may be blown out... Longknowe, Coldsmouth, Hownam, Titlington pike, Heburn Wood, take your pick and not too high above sea level !

Crossfell is very good when the conditions are right...don't forget its a big mountain site with lots of places to get into trouble plus its a very long drive for us living on the northeast coast.

It's a bit iffy everywhere for PG tomorrow but we could be lucky. With weather pushing from the west and a potential squeeze on the east coast consider Tinto south. It will be fine for HG and it can take more wind than most sites PG wise as it's clean out front. I'd say any flying anywhere is a bonus so have a plan B - if your trying your luck this way stick a MTB in and have a go at Glentress if you get blown out.

I have just tuned into this thread and I think I could save you all a lot of bother.
A lad I once knew had a perfect answer to the wind in the Cheviots, he always said to me “if the wind from the ssw on take off – lean to the east, if it is from the nnw, stand on your tiptoes and lean forward, if it goes NE lie back on your risers, if it keeps going round to the ESE then lean to the west, if it goes to the SSE lean back on your heels.” If you follow these guide lines I know you will not go wrong.
