GPS Overlay

Post by alan westmoreland »

Hi All,

I have a question about GPS Overlay on Google Earth, after having a nice fly on my power unit up the coast on Saturday, and downloading the tracklog. I noticed from the tracklog that it was not where i was expecting it to be on the map.

When landing at the Lindisfarne Inn, I approached from the North, lost height and landed in front of the Inn BUT the tracklog has stated i lost height one field further South than the Inn. All the overlay seem to be 1 field out, or have i done something wrong with the GPS 12. Is this normal as one of my other tracklog flights had me landing on the railway lines, about one field out too.

I also had on MLR GPS with me so it would be interesting to compare to the tracklogs, however, i need a download cable for MLR GPS, if anyone has one for sale or know where i can purchase one, it would be much appreciated.
happily flying the mosquito/wasp since 2001

Check if the datum is set to WGS84 not OSGB. All UK airmaps ate set to this.

Also have a look at what the interval for the track points is. If it's too long between trackpoints the gps might just put a straight line between them rather than your actual path.

The more channels/satellites the gps can see the more accurate the fix is aswell.
You are only as good as your last flight........
