What a day we had at Jenkin on Sunday, with some of the first thermals of the year. With a forecast that we were given, it was difficult to judge the best place to be. However with scouts out on the road and an early start to Hartside, the decision was made to carry on to Jenkin, based on the direction of the wind speed and visibility. We arrived with gliders already in the air skying out over Jenkin, so it was a quick walk up with my 10kg-pod harness reserve bag and glider. So we seemed to make it up with in quick speed, with several gliders already landing, bummer why are they landing? Well the reason was, it was bloody freezing, so I rigged and was off and up and after only 15 minutes the fingers were crying out, so big ears lots of essing off and down I landed. 5 minutes of finger wiggling and the burning came through and the hands were ready for a good 1 hour 35 minutes of pure flying.
The flying, well all I can say is utterly fantastic leaving you hungry for more, realising why all the hours of driving and preparation are worth it. So the next time you think the duvet is a better option than going out for the day, then think again. And luckily for me my radio was left in the car, where by the sounds of it was the best place.
Cheers Gary
