june the 1st meeting at the corner house
well another meeting is coming up and with so little flying i think just a meet up bar meal and a bit of a chat seems the order of the meeting.
the corner house as usual but i think with so little flying then i do think this may be the option.
any other thoughts?
cheers gary

Club meetings
Gary, you will not get many turning up for bit of a chat & bar meal.. you need an agenda.
Boosting meeting attendance
Club Sites (most important issue)
Member's video/ pic's talks (great entertainment)
Talks - questions & answers with experienced pilots (very popular)
Latest equipment
Club quiz (very popular)
Club comps HG/PG
Club coaching development (important)
Parachute deployments (always a good turn out)
Web site issues
Bill Scott's raffle

meetings
Personally I don’t want to spend long summer evenings at a club meeting and it seems to me most other people are thinking the same thing. I think Gary’s enthusiasm for the sport and the club is admirable but if these is not the support from the membership then it’s no use flogging a dead horse.
I’m not suggesting we do away with meeting though and I think Ron has some worthwhile suggestions. But lets keep them for over the winter when I think there is much more likelihood of getting an audience.
I would like to hear from Ian on his recent record breaking flight, top pilot at the top of the sport; now that would be worth listening to.
Cheers
Chris.

well lots of talk there and with chris scammels talk we had a very good turn out, but when a talk from rod was on it was pitifull given this about a system that could get you more airtime.
i must say that pressure at work is so much that the last thing on my mind is a club meeting. however given we have the corner house as a stable venue it is a shame not to use it.
i had a feeling the june meeting is unlikely to have a good turn out as with the lcc being on then everyone is like to be there.
this being the case then i think junes meeting should be canceled
cheers gary

maybe the reason for members not coming to the meetings anymore.
there has always been a hardcore of members attending the meetings in the past, however that hardcore has either stoped flying or just put it on the back burner.
i think unless there is a swing in new members then i do not think what ever we do will pull in the crowds.
there is at least 10-12 members that have now moved on to other sports or just laying low, so put them with the regular 7-12 members that turn up now, makes that a minimum of 20-22 members.
so looking at this then i think a tall order to get more folk at the meetings, it is hard enough trying to encourage members to come and fly the hills. so why would members go out the way to get to a club meeting for anything other than flying.
my goal is to go flying, and clubs have never been my strong point, however without the help and comitment of comitee members sites officers then there would be no sites so no flying. so it is important that people do support the club to help keep the flying going.
for six years i have been part of this club, and seen the people taken the same jobs year in year out as no other members came forward to take there turn.
yet recently i was at the cumbrians anual general meeting and there seemed to be a much bigger circle of people taken on the jobs.
lots to think about but i will put in 100% effort into flying every weekend evenings and helping as many others to do the same, as for club meetings i will let others make some effort in making meetings a place to go.
as a point when i went to meetings from the early part i just wanted to chat to other pilots and just meet up, the sites money and all the other stuff was not of interest and was something that should of been sorted by the commitee
cheers gary

When I started reading this post I thought of all those in the Tyne valley turning up at the lion and lamb and thought,,,if only they'd turn up on the hill!!!
Kept reading to see I wasn't flying anymore????
As for turning up at meetings and doing jobs,,,, well, secretary for 3 years and chairman for a year without missing a meeting, including birthdays and anniversaries just about pissed me off, especially with all the hassle. Only just rekindled a friendship after all that time.
I've offered what I can in the way of coaching sessions, but no one takes the offer.

the point is that the club is very much smaller than what it was 5 years ago approx 90 members now 50to 60 so i guess attendances will go down.
you see i used to like the web site when it had passion and we felt strong enough about something to have your say. so if a post makes you want to have your say then do it.
what is so wrong in a meet up at a pub now and then instead of formal meetings, i meen how many people in the club fly more than 25 hours a year? not many. and even with all the traveling i do only manage 100 hours, and 95 percent of that is weekend only.
the thing is flying is better shared with others even if its just sharing a car, yet some just want to stay on the outside and do there own thing.
lets hope this weekend can get us out flying and see what we can do.

meetings.
Gary, thank you for removing your list of names.
We have to run 12 formal monthly meetings with at least 2 commitee members present as to maintain our registration with the BHPA (NHPC club constituion)

Gary, I agree I think a meet up for a meal and drink to talk about flying is a good idea, but also worth getting along some people to do a presentation or even an informal question and answer session whenever possible.
Anyone interested in getting Advance Pilot ratings and covering the topics required to get through the exam?

I reckon we could do with a social evening to get folk enthused about getting out on the hill again, or just to get together and chat?
How about a meal out in Newcastle for mid summer? The Xmas night out was great at Prima.
Same again or somewhere different?
How does Friday 24th June suit people?
I don't mind booking it if there is some interest?
What do people think??

If there is a club meeting I will be there.
Flying, I love flying, did it for a long time by myself, with or without others
and will continue to do so.
Gary Stenhouse is doing a stirling job with great enthusiasm.
If members do not turn out because they have lost their enthusiasm to fly then there is nothing Gary or any-one else can do about it.
