Hi.

You are receiving this as the club contact for your local flying club. If you are no longer in this role, please forward this to the relevant person or at least let me know that I need to send it elsewhere. Thanks.

I am contacting you to let your flying club know what services I can offer to your members over the coming winter. Please forward this e-mail to the relevant committee members for consideration. Thanks.

Firstly, I can visit your club to present an evening lecture and slide show on one of the following topics;
• Mountain flying in the UK.
• Adventure flying in Scotland
• Flying the Lake District
• Circuit flying in the mountains
Or a mixture of the above topics to suit.

The lecture/slideshow will last around 1.5hrs, split into two 45 minute halfs. I charge a fee of £150 within 100 mile radius of home, £200 beyond that, plus modest travel expenses from Cumbria. I am available from October to March for these lectures.

Secondly, I currently offer a 2 day mountain/XC flying theory masterclass here in the Lake District. These have been very successful, with glowing reviews from pilot's who've attended. Club coaches in particular have stated how they have benefitted hugely from this course and feel better prepared to coach XC flying.

I am now offering to visit clubs and present this course over a weekend in winter, at a venue to suit your members. The course content is as follows;
• preparation - equipment, planning, gaining knowledge, psychology
• weather forecasts and real time online information
• planning a route and appropriate conditions
• site selection for the day - being on the right site is half the battle
• topography of the Lake District from a pilot's perpspective (optional for away courses)
• mountain flying basic rules and safety
• the basics of mountain XC flying
• using the four types of lift efficiently
• transitions -speed to fly - flying up wind
• transition arrival - lift search and anticipation
• sea breeze fronts - every good day in the Lakes has one
• landing out safely in the mountains
• how to avoid bombing out - escaping from a 'hole'
• flying in the right 'gear' for the conditions - crawler gear through to overdrive
• tackling fear and inhibitions
• micro and macro control - learning micro precison and macro glider placement
• equipment choices
• Lake District insider knowledge on 'magic areas' (optional for away courses)
• routes to try in Lakes and Scotland - downwind - out and return - circuits and triangles
• flying leeside
• how to avoid accidents and have a long career in XC paragliding

At home in Cumbria I charge £60 a head for this course. I could charge individually like this for a visit to your club or the club could pay me an all-found fee of £600 and have unlimited numbers attend the course. In this case the club would arrange and cover the cost of the venue (typically a village hall or similar). Either way I would need help sourcing a venue.

If you don't feel the need for me to visit your club with this course, would you be kind enough to distribute to your members a press release about the Lakes based course (to follow if agreeable).

If any of the above is of interest to you, please do not hesitate to contact me via chris@mountainparagliding.co.uk or telephone 07988 691626.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Chris Scammell
