Ager, Spain

Post by Graeme »

Just back from a great week in Ager. Wow what an excellent place to be and fly. The ridge is a sight to behold and a few k's long and even better to launch from. It's an easy drive to the top 900m above landing.

Even a top to bottom to the camping site landing field is 5k. I reached cloudbase from launch in just a few beats and a few 360s - then there is ample opportunities to fly the ridges or push out and explore the huge valley below with thermals galore everywhere. I learned lots in 9 big flights and picked up a few nifty tips. Was quite bumpy (very bumpy) at midday but restitution flights in early evening were an absolute delight. I didn't get a chance to XC over the back but a more experienced pilot did and reached Organya aka The Magic Mountain - about 15km.

A 1hr 45min drive from T2 Barcelona airport the campsite welcomes families in tents (some already erected), camper vans and there are chalets too. The town is quiet but with plenty restaurants and shops. Had a great time, - I stayed for two extra days than planned - and would recommend it to all levels of pilots from post cp to advanced XC. Only drawback is the site is restricted to southerlies.

Next stop Olu Deniz in September for an SIV. If anyone fancies coming along it's an cost saving idea to book a package deal for two rather than pay single supplement - so if anyone wants to share a room please get in touch.

Will be back in the mix this weekend - uk weather conditions permitting of course 8)

Sounds great Graeme, wish I'd been able to go too & would love to hear your stories.
Maybe next year...going to plod on with local...ish flying & save up for a few trips through 2015.
I was thinking of suggesting a flying, surfing, walking etc van trip to Ireland sometime if anyone fancies it & has knowledge on sites, etc
