Bargain

Post by colin keightley »

After eventually realising on saturday that i needed a new radio i found a bargain at

Image

I bought an Alinco DJ-V17E

On other websites this costs around £140 for the unit but at this shop it was only £99 with converter cable and speaker mic.

It is a water resistant IPX7 which means it can be submursed in 1meter of water for up to 30min

Ok its not as small as the yaseu's but its loads more cheaper and still fairly small.

The arial is very flexible and all the fittings are screw in waterproof which is why you need the converter to change the single pin screw in jack to a conventional one. But with the package these guys sell it comes with it.

Excellent build quality and the functions once set up are very easy to use.

Havnt used it in the field yet so couldnt comment on battery life or transmition quality but havnt read any bad reviews the only thing that people have complained about is the fitted speaker sounds slightly muffled because of the waterproof membrane covering it.

As for our frequency and widebanding, the unit i bought was supposed to ship as 144 - 146 but when i received mine it was wide banded to 130 - 174 when you place an order it asks you your intended purpose so i put down paragliding maybe thats why.

Anyhow wide banding on this radio is the easiest ive seen under the battery there is a little square plate unscrew it and there is a blue wire in a loop cut it and your wide banded.

Anyhow just thought this was terific value for a water-resistant radio

Have to say that being on the receiving side of the yaesu they ain't too great whereas the alinco seems to be slightly better. Not sure water resistance should be an issue in our sport
See you out there!!!!!

hey, landing in water is a serious matter.
This club has no room for a sense of humour, some people need to think about humour and its place.
I suggest you give yourselves a good talking to, 40 lashes should do it.
i once swam in some water and i got soaked, its not a laughing matter.
while im on i want to thank the pilot, the photographer, the national trust and mr kodak for making this possible.

These low airtimers scratching the surface. Something needs to be done about this sort of thing. Let's get our safety officer on to it right away.

Water

Post by GlennP »

I was browsing the web and I saw this picture.

I really really want to try your sport of parascending but I have a few doubts.......

Surely this canoe does not have the required thrust to get this man of ample girth high enough to leave the water. Then canoe man would have to row extremely fastly.

The large man in the water clearly looks disappointed by the results and the operator of the parasailing concern in the canoe looks rather non plussed and ambivalent. Is safety not a concern for your wonderful sport of paradiving? This is what i am thinking but I see the man in the water is wearing a large black nappy should he experience any terror so I change my mind.

This is a truly wonderful sport but sadly here in Nigeria we do not have such wonderful things but I do know that I have a large cheque you can cash and then send me some money for a lost relative I know you have but then it might just be easier to send me your bank details boss.

Then we both happy and I fly the paraboatingshute with a smiley face.

Yours ,

Ndunga

Dear Ndunga
Then canoe man would have to row extremely fastly.

The man in the canoe was last seen paddling his way through the lakeland water ways on his way to Panama where he also was hoping to cash a large cheque.
